Hate Crimes

Division by difference, dangerous actions based on assumptions.

THE PROBLEM:

We are greatly divided right now as a country, people finding ways to dehumanize each other based on age, gender, skin color, politics, religion, or even favorite sports team. The general public often is either very polarized or simply refuses to talk about most topics reducing the opportunity to solve major problems.

Currently, we are seeing, insecurity and distrust driving violence and hate within our nation.

Most issues are simple misunderstandings, impatient individuals trying who dislike discomfort, and in turn, have very strong reactions. We must create an environment where it is safe to communicate without personalization, judgment, and finger-pointing if we are to see the value in our similarities and begin solving problems as a community.

Proposed Solutions:

TEACHING CORE VALUE DEVELOPMENT:

Your parents & grandparents developed core values from their family, as families shifted to a two-income household model and spent less time with their children then my generation started developing core values from our peers. Now that my generation is having families of their own, their children are forming their core values where they spend their time most, with social media.

Social media is designed to present the most extreme and polarized narrative available on any topic, all in order to grab the shortened attention spans of individuals under constant and increasing pressure. It is our escape from jobs that can feel like a lifetime of absent purpose, skill mastery, and autonomy.

Make no mistake, all generations are now being heavily influenced by social media, as we are all spending more time with our electronic devices.

CREATE SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR CONVERSATION:

How can we hope to reach agreements that resolve problems if we can’t discuss the issue? Facts are important and solutions must be based on reality vs. expectations, that said we cannot forget in order for others to trust our view of reality we must build the relationships that form families, communities and our nation.

Facts exist on multiple sides often that support many different views, solutions, or ways of perceiving the problem. It is a requirement that we build trust if we wish to be heard. To build this trust we must focus on how our actions and words impact the other person. People are emotional decision-makers, therefore, helping you feel safe is more important than winning the argument.

We are truly stronger united than divided.

UPGRADE THE CAPABILITY OF ALL:

The person who has nothing to lose is willing to take the greatest risk. It is the social agreements we maintain to be civil to prevent mutually assured destruction that provide order in any civilization. Laws would not exist if our species didn’t require guidance to prevent catastrophe. Unfortunately, laws like humans have their flaws, and like people take advantage of other humans, some take advantage of some laws.

At no time in human recorded history have we had such great technological capability, yet such a tremendous level of inequality.

The scarcity that exists today is a direct result of mismanaged resources and is almost entirely engineered due to the economic system we have built. If we were to distribute the capability to produce food, electricity, purify water, construct shelter, educate, and at least on some levels remedy common injuries we could greatly reduce the cost of all of these things.

We must replace the model of too big to fail, with individuals who are capable and willing.
